UPDATE, 10/5:
The collaborative writing vis-a-vis Earth Democracy is working, so let's follow through with this exercise as a way to complete the WTI phase of the semester. The due date for the WTI portfolio AND the midterm reflection will be 9AM Monday morning (10.11.10).
topics for today: 3 strategies for WTI, writing transitions, arrangement, appeals, creating stand-alone WTI essays that also can be woven into a the group essay,
For Thursday: Read "Blood in the Gutter" by Scott McCloud and write one transition into your Earth Democracy/WTI project. Please also take a look at Williams and Columb's "Clarity" to prepare for an in-class workshop on Thursday. Otherwise, write according to the needs of your group's essay, as we discussed in class. For example, if telling a story or defining a key term or neologism will improve the information-to-noise ratio of your essay, perform these writing actions. Use the wiki to communicate about the steps/elements/arrangements you have developed so far, and to extend the classroom conversations about your group's WTI. "Divide the labor" to make sure that you use these transition-writing exercises for gathering and synthesizing sources, captioning/explaining images, etc.
