Final Paper on ELL

Draft Part one

My studies do not focus the arts as a professional path, as a good portion of my life has been in the arts in one manner or the other, but rather as a useful tool in developing educational process.  The arts through out time have been an inspiring tool in our social development as a people.  Have we not have fallen in and out of love with them in our hearts , have we not found spirituality and a sense of who we are, in their guidance ,and have we not been inspired to dream of  pinnacles to reach to from a passage in a book, a melody or lyric in a song,  a vision in a painting ,and a character in theater or movies, all without a concerned effort on our part.  Yes, we all have, and our lives by varying degrees have been molded from their presence, and influence.  With this effortless acceptance of the arts would it not be logical to incorporate the arts in tasks that demand effort; such as traditional education, and specifically for individuals who are having difficulty grasping the task within education.  I believe it would be valid, and have committed my efforts academically and professionally to bringing the arts to education were it is sustainable through out the academic curriculum and not just art for arts sake.

My direction was once again confirmed in my conversation with the media director for the board of education of PinellasCounty.  The topic was concerning middle, and high school entrees for the Image Maker festival, and its feasibility based on time constraints, when our conversation wandered off to the subject of the arts and its influence on academic education.  She robustly stipulated that academic achievement across the board by students involved in the arts bypassed the students who were not involved in the arts.  With this endorsement I embark on my presentation of metacognative teaching using media in its approach.

As our society continues becoming more complex, so have our students, which make it imperative for teachers to be armed with as many tools of perception, communication, and imagination as possible.  It is essential that the use of the arts are significant in their role in education, and that the need for more substantial research that provides validity in how a wider variety of the arts can be effective as teaching aids in all traditional subjects is necessary.  My passion is in publishing texts and creating workshops for educators in the significance of using the arts and how it can best be used in specific curriculum.  I also would like to continue were the Wood and Freeman research study left off; by duplicating their study, and adding the many different factors that have arisen in our social and educational system over the past eighty odd years.  Thus validating the essential need, not only in the visual medium, but in all forms of the arts as an instrumental tool in all academic studies.
