Together Towards Death
Sitting by myself
aging in chaos prism while the dreamers dream
and the city sits in silence
smoking cigarettes and ashing in a shell
wanting loneliness, we all age together
wanting death, to be sung to sleep
hearing stirs through the wall over air conditioner
hum, click, click
wanting to be anywhere but here.
Walking by myself
down Delmar Terrace in humid shadow morning
St. Petersburg, melancholy city
of overgrown redbrick alleys for
the living and the dead
the hopeless roam the avenues waiting for their call:
the end of loneliness, to be sung to sleep
aging together towards death
hum, click, click
wanting to be anywhere but here
