DRCA - Annual Report Outline

ANNUAL REPORT - FIRST EDIT

A basic outline for the DRCA's annual report.  We are using the powers of the wiki to work on this while also using it as a composition contribution to the class.  An exploration of the collaborative writing process and composition, if you will.

I (ES) have initialed the items that I will work on this week. For reference, ES=Elizabeth Sellers, HM/HIM=Heidi MacLean, AC=Ann Caviness, EP=Emil Pavone, HT=Hugh Tulloch. If there is a (?) next to an item, it means that we haven't decided if this should be in the annual report, or if it is better suited for the newsletter.  This annual report also serves as a marketing tool and one of the challenges is making sure that the information we include will be relevant and accurate in one year, maybe even two.  If the information is likely to change, then the topic is probably better suited for the newsletter that is published more often and at a lesser cost.

2010 ANNUAL REPORT

I. Letter from the President (AC/EP) (ES)

   A. Photos of Emil and Jim Rillings (AC)

II. About the DRCA

    A. Map of DRCA boundaries (ES)

    B. Description- similar to membership letter, info about joining, anything left out by President's letter (ES)

III. Spotlight on Local Politicians (with emphasis on what they have done for the DRCA)

    A. Mayor Bill Foster

    B. City Council Member Leslie Curran

    C. City Council Member Karl Nurse

IV. Spotlight on DRCA (Charter) Members

(thumbnail/ small blurb on each. Below is a list of current members; we need to find out who the original charter members are. These are the associations that will be featured since they are likely to remain members. We will probably use some of EP's photos for this) (The links below are actually to a real estate company named Florida-Simms. Their website has very detailed and accurate descriptions of the properties)

                                        Charter members (?)

    A. Bayfront Towers (ES) -Emil Pavone (or is it Donald Jenkins?)

    B. Vinoy Place               - James H. Rillings

    C. Parkshore Plaza        - ??

    D. Harbour Hill             - ??

    E. Florencia                  -June P. Johnson

    F. Cloisters                  -Ronald C. Williams

Heidi: I am working on contacting these organizations to find out who the original charter members are.  So far I have contacted the Vinoy and Parkshore Plaza.  But before presuming too much, would the names under the document 'Articles of Incorporation' indicate the charter members for each organization?  For instance, under the Vinoy Place, I have  James H. Rillings as the person who accepted being a registered member of the DRCA.  I think that was what you meant, but it was not exactly clear by the wording, at least from a newbie point of view, though I am having trouble locating the Parkshore Plaza under that document, so I suppose it was not for nothing.  For some reason I was under the impression that there were charter members per organization versus one member.  I think that was the main confusion.  But are the above name and place associations relevant to what we are looking for?

V. Issues & Accomplishments

    A. Noise Ordinance (ES)

          1. Noise Free Florida

    B. Baywalk (?)

    C. Zoning Laws (ES)

    D. City GIS Maps (need to check if the map has been revised correctly)

    E. Homelessness

         1. The issue of homelessness in Saint Petersburg (from a DRCA perspective) (AC's commentary)

         2. Current "Homeless Program" by City Council/Mayor Foster

   F. DRCA-USF Partnership

         1. Projects/ Civic Engagement

         2. Interns

         3. School of Business (?)

    D. Waterfront stadium/waterfront park land designation (using AC's article) (ES)

    E. Crime/ Police Staffing

           1. AC's article

           2. Crime report (tie in with USF partnership)

    F. Parking meters (?)

    G. Electric rates/ Nuclear power fee (?) (this is an ongoing issue but not much has actually been done about it so it may or may not be worth discussing)

    H. Pioneer Park (?)

Google docs

10/1: I have put the section on the Vinoy in Google docs so far.  I will mention in hopefully a timely fashion when I put something up that I think deserves attention.  I'm at least going to try this, but I plan to still include things on the Wiki, but to make it a little more organized for the sake of the Wiki (because it is going to be extensive content, even if sections themselves are small word count-wise), the project, and to keep our communications leader in the know and so I don't have to personally bug her whenever I have something which is ready for serious revisions and polishing.

The 2006-2007 annual report included:

pg 1: In brief, explain the current mission statement and how the goals have stayed the same or have been expanded on since last report (the report I am basing this off of makes it clear that the DRCA formed in the years being accounted for).

pg 2: cite new and old groups the DRCA has worked with.  Talk about how often the board met and give a little snippet on that idea.  Cite expansions to the DRCA website.

pg 3.  this page goes into working with city officials and highlights the issue of noise pollution and gives an account to specific events which the DRCA was personally involved in.

pg 4 and 5: mentions the DRCA homes and residents and gives three mini paragraphs on those associations which comprise the DRCA.  Includes pretty pictures mostly with over-head titles for each picture.

pg 6: talks about distinguished guests, includes portraits.

pg 7: discussed distinguished leadership.

pg 8: mentions challenges for the coming year (2007-2008) including Alliances with Commercial Groups, Crime Prevention, and The Homeless (those are the section titles).

I have yet to discuss the inside and outer covers.

It's pretty simple and straightforward.   There will be alterations on points where it concerns the fact that the DRCA is no longer a brand new organization and so content-type will obviously shift.  And of course, Elizabeth and I will have to work with the reports and exhaustive content our communications leader will be discussing and sending to us.  Our organization leader has mostly expressed his interest in the visual appeal of this formal report in regards to visual composition.

Q&A:

Questions:  Alright, I could use more specifications in regards to what we are exactly discussing concerning Bay Walk, for one.  I know you and Ann mentioned the move that was made which more or less killed business there, or so I thought was the case.  If you have specifics about what we need to cover, please fill me in via the Wiki, e-mail, or whatever works best.  Basically to know what issue to cover, what not to cover, etc.  I also do not know if the question mark next to Bay Walk and similarly with the parking meter thing means that you are confused as I am or something else I am missing.  If that is the case, I will just go and bug Ann.

Here are my thoughts on your report, since we didn't get a chance to review it in class last week.  JB 11/2

Good contributions. The subjects I listed on List of Subjects for Coverage as discussed in our last board meeting, will they all be relevant, then, or just the ones listed here? That probably was not as coherent as it could have been worded, but should we disregard that list for now or incorporate it into this list?

I took the top outline from the list that Ann discussed at our meeting last week. For now, we will only include those topics-- the other things may be better suited for the newsletter, I think.

With the report largely out of the way, should we think about improving the website/boosting them technologically? It's been a while since we talked about it, but I know that was a part of the plan. I dunno, I'll probably bring it up to you in class, but just saying.
