Ehle- WikiBlog

Page history last edited by Ehle so fly 13 years, 3 months ago

It is like blogging on facebook, to your classmates.

ABOUT ME

10/19/10Writing to Evaluate(Chapter 9+19) After editing the sidebar and making the page "1102 WikiBlog" I decided to go to the SPB page and make sure I put everyones name so they can easily link their WikiBlog to that page. 20 people are in our class, and I rarley see 20 people working on the Wiki over the weekend before our assignments are due. Jasmyne has been blogging since September, and has made many valid points in her blogs with little to NO feedback from her classmates. Today was the first day I ever found Jasmyne's WikiBlog. I think it will be easier for us to all have a circle of communication about our confusion through the WikiBlog's. Knowing Jasmyne, she probably thinks how if she starts a WikiBlog other people will to and then maybe some of the issues she brought up in her WikiBlog people will start to realize. I think the main problem with our class is awareness. At first no one was "aware" how to use the Wiki. Now that people have a better understanding they have started to do more class assignments. I go to class all the time to find Dr. Connor frustrated because people haven't done assignments. I have been guilty of being unaware of assignments at time. I think the WikiBlog will help us to keep our essays on tract and get assignments due when they are due. I am afraid that our midterm grades will be an eye openerhowever at least for some of us.

10/21/10-  16 people are in class today and class started a little late. Today a few more people have learned about the blogs, this is good to start writing what ever we want. Using the skills from the library class and the databases are important to help when researching because GOOGLE is not always a valid source. SPB - this is the link for our Student Philanthropy Board's page (group #2 P.I.F.) We are focusing our 5,000 dollars to help a non profit that works with mentoring, preventing, aiding, or bringing about awareness for domestic violence. Wondering how we will PAY IT FORWARD? We want a non profit who plans on training grant writers to make this $5,000 dollars turn into a larger grant which could be more helpful to their cause.

10/25/10I am just hoping that in our new groups it will be more successful with the last. 2 out of the 3 members from my old group are in my new one. Jay once again is on the Wiki and participating however no one else from my group has gone on the Wiki to form their problem statement. Estefi felt so strongly about doing a proposal for domestic violence I am so surprised she has not done her problem statement yet. However, it doesn't matter because I know it will be up there eventually. What matters is how cool the "Pay it Forward" idea is and how our group is doing such a unique problem statement. I really think we will go somewhere with this and be able to make it into an exciting rest of the semester. Finally we have started NOFO writing :)

10/26/10- 4,152 views in 3 days. Perhaps Jason Marcus will help influence new rappers to use their talent towards good rap. Since Eminem Jason Marcus is one of the first rappers that I actually have interst in listening to. I love music, when I am in a club or party I will listen to any type of music that is up beat and puts me into a good mood. Jason Marcus has the right to be recognized as a talented rap artist.  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=f00tuGkQ8EI. Jason Marcus is a true rap artist, he doesn't try to change his image to fit in. He has amazing talent when he free styles or creates a new song.

10/27/10-10/29/10 I am sort of confused about what I am supposed to be doing tonight on the Wiki for homework. Where to go next with our problem statement... research is definitely needed to back up our ideas. It is frustrating that no one in our team has really contributed except jasmyne, boda, and I. It is also frustrating that I cannot locate any other problem statements from the other 2 groups and start providing feedback so that my problem statement will get feedback. It is hard to go on and write a final revised draft when no one has provided adivce, feedback, or help towards my problem statement except ANDREA. What is up with our class? Its getting old..

I MISS GYMNASTICS!!!!!!!!!!!

11/1/10- Its almost 11:00 PM on November 1st. Tomarrow the bulk of our portfolio is due, and still only four members from my class besides myself have gone on the Wiki over the weekend.. this is truly sad WHAT IS WRONG WITH OUR CLASSSS!>!>!>!>!?!?!?!?!??!

11/2/10- Today I went a different way with my problem statement, and completely started over by using the SPB #11 as a template and turning it into my own. I am still awaiting feedback, finally people are starting to make the pages for their portfolios but it is unfair how they all "fall behind" and then just take an hour or one night to create the whole portfolio. Clearly adding feedback at the last minute is not helpful because not all of us have the time or energy to wait up until 2AM to find feedback for our problem statements. Also, some people have class before English and do not have a chance to sign on the Wiki and edit their work to feedback that is posted 10 minutes before class. Lastly, Dr. Conner can see what time we post things, and what we edit so it is VERY important to get it done on time. It is holding back the whole class and very few seem to be on point with the assignments. I am very frustrated right now because although people are finally starting to create their portfolios they were supposed to have already been done!! Feedback was due by today, and I feel no one from our class has received enough efficient feedback to have a final draft problem statement.

11/4/10- 50% of class showed up today, which is very sad considering we are paying to be here. I am in the process of doing research for my problem statement, I have a good draft (in my opinion) but it is SERIOUSLY lacking research!

11/5/10- I just finished my writing to evaluate portfolio, it is finally complete and it feels so good to be done! My writing to Evaluate writing process video, however has so far taken 20 minutes to upload, and it says 68 minutes remaining... this is a drag because I do not want to leave my computer during the upload. I do not want the upload to get messed up because this is the 4th video I have made because at first I was doing it like Jay did, and it kept getting messed up so I had to use my friends digital camera.  My video is finally up, check it out!!!

11/6/10- The weather is amazing, I am curled up in two blankets and still cold, I love this weather :) My boyfriend is making me an egg in the whole, one of my favorite types of breakfast. I am glad that I finally finished the portfolio. I wish everyone in my class was on the Wiki working hard at their portfolio, I wish I could help people and guide them to the portfolio process. Honestly, I will come to the dorms (although I live off campus) and help you guys out with whatever you need. This assignment needs to be completed (it was due last Tuesday, and then extended to last night-Friday). I am very motivated when I get onto the Wiki because this is my last composition class, and my last chance to learn how to improve my writing. Most professors grade my essays and just slap a grade on their with a few comments and it doesn't HELP me what so ever. I started off with a c- in Western Civilizations on my document analysis and with the help of Dr. Conner, my peers, and the Wiki in general I was able to bring up my next grade to a B-. Next time I write my essay for that class I plan on posting it on the WIki. However, it is not always common for people to want to come on and help and provide feedback. It is time for my generation to realize that peer review doesn't only help your classmates but yourself. Looking for errors in other's writing helps when you write you work because you realize their downfalls within your writing. I am not sure if this makes sense but ask me what I am trying to explain and I will explain further.. All I am trying to say is I hope our entire class completes their portfolios by tonight. I know I am already expecting Jenna when she gets off work, and Duane when he gets back into St. Petersburg, but other then that majority of our class still has not completed the Unit 3 portfolio :( You guys are just making it easier on the professor, he is paid to grade us, help us, and so on but if you don't participate in this process it is certainly much easier for him to just put a 0ZER0 for you. Although I know this frustrates Dr. Conner because he is a good teacher and is trying to help us succeed with our writing. He teaches because he loves to teach and wants to help us. I don't know why I write these WikiBlogs, because I feel that no one reads them( due to lack of response). One of the points of the WikiBlog, is to get more comfortable with the Wiki, play around on it, write your confusion, frustration, and ask for help. Not only this but to comment on your classmates, because feedback is a part in the process of using the Wiki. The main point of using the Wiki (in my opinion) is that it is a public website on the internet so that we can receive tons of feedback from each other and improve our writing.

11/10/10- Everytime I look at the course calender, I think about how fast time has flown by. The semester is coming to an end, and our last essay is finally due. I really hope that my classmates learned as much as I did this semester. I am so greatful I switched into the LLS program, because I feel composition would have been somewhat B O R I N G- without the Wiki! I find it funny, that I never heard about the bad reputation that comes with using comic sans, until my good friend Jay informed me. I used to always use comic sans, one of my favorite fonts! The feedback from the Wiki this semester has really helped me grow as a writer, one thing that also has helped me lately is hitting the link " see changes" from the "recent activities" page, and learning from what the upperclassman edit in thier compositions. When in doubt, do this! It really helps to see other people in the process of editing their work and the Wik lays it out quite beautifully! One thing that really bugs me...........Why do people sign on the Wiki to merely comment on something, write a quick blog in hope of some extra points towards their grade, or create their portfolio and the links, but put nothing at those links?!?! I don't mean this is an issue but it is if you are not completing the class assignments. What is the point of coming on the Wiki once a week (or less then that) if you are not going to complete the unit assignments. I don't really get it, and I feel really bad for Dr. Conner. Now that the semester is coming to an end, Dr. Conner can probobally guess who will/will not do the assignment without even having to look at the Wiki. Without showing your Wiki process posting something at the last minute on the Wiki doesn't count ( or at least it's a LOW grade). On another note, I find this funny. I wasn't trying to hurt anyone's feelings with the order I put in this list. It isn't in any special order, of who posts the most blogs, who has the best blogs, or who started it. It was simply in the order of what name I thought of next. It wasn't necessary to do that because of my comment on your WikiBlog, but whatever floats your boat! Although, I am not about drama. I am simply trying to help my classmates. I find it especially necessary to at least offer help to the ones who don't come to class, and haven't started on the Unit that was due like a month ago! There are a handful of students like this, it is sad, but at least some of us got somethin good out of this course. It is time to forget about the people who sign on to the Wiki to write a couple sentences, or make a comment, and not do their work. It is time to focus on what is important, the good that has come from this class, and the improvement! I've been thinking (and I am not sure who is with me on this) but it would be pretty cool to keep this Wiki active, and post our compositions from other classes in hope of improving them and getting feedback before they are due! I think this would be an awesome idea, and help increase our chances of keeping good grades throughout college! Hopefully a good amount of you are interested so that it will work. If anyone needs help with Unit 4 Portfolio, Unit 3 Portfolio (although past due) or the showcase, feel free to comment here!!!

11/11/10- I feel that I have accomplished a good amount of work on the Wiki in the past few days, my eyes hurt! :)

11/14/10- After a long weekend of cheerleading, my body aches and I just want to sleep!! I actually still have one more event this week. I am about to go cheer at a volleyball game! wooopwooop. I feel very unmotivated when I go onto the Wiki because half our class still hasn't come on and started any of the multiple assignments assigned during class on Tuesday. Just because class was cancelled on Thursday, doesn't mean you have to ignore the assignments :(

11/16/10- Although I plan to go to cheerleading practice tonight, I am also going to try to get my showcase going. Aswell as revision, and adding to my rough draft (unit 4). I am waiting for feedback, whats new, but I plan on fixing it tonight feedback or not. This weekend is going to be hectic cheering a football game and then a basketball game right after. I am excited though because once this week is over its almost Thanksgiving break, and then spring semester will be coming sooner then I expected. So far my showcase plans are still being decided and I would love some ideas. It is really getting old how the only time people are ever on this Wiki is during class, nothing ever gets done then people come to class and quickly slap something on the Wiki hopeing they'll recieve a passing grade. This isn't the point. It is not always about the grades. We take general education "composition" to strengthen our writing skills. If you don't go through the writing process you are not learning anything. I know some work slower then others, but writing to evaluate was due in late October, and its mid November. There is no excuse for not participating in an assignment and then pasting it on at the last second to hope for a passing grade. Just bothers me how no one participates when the work is assigned, causing less feedback. Then two weeks later they decide to post a paragraph or two on the subject. It is not fair how some people do this, it is almost like there is no deadline for assignments. This has caused me to start thinking that the wiki is a mess, because anyone can just post their work and hope the professor didn't realize that they have not been doing anything all along. All I know, is I am glad I am not one of these people. I hope my writing to convince essay is my best invention yet, and I am excited to see my classmates papers brew as well (for those who participate).

11/22/10- The semester is so close to an end. I am really devastated that we lost to Pittsburgh this weekend. Everything is coming to an end. Football season went so fast! I cannot believe there are only two games left, I remember back in September when I was counting down to the first game. As class comes to an end, I am really glad I was in this English class. Although in a way I am sad because it didn't turn out the way I imagined it could have, I still learned a lot from this course. I learned a lot in all of my other classes too and I feel pretty confident about fall semester.

11/23/10- Karma, the cause and effect cycle. It is what you get for lying, treating people bad, and sort of the thought my best friends father would always tell us growing up, "you get what you deserve... treat others how you want to be treated." Karma implements consequences. For people who do not keep there word, who lie, who cheat, who steal, who rape. Karma is a way of God getting back at people for their wrong doings. I personally know karma is a beautiful thing. I have realized there is no point or reason in revenge because karma will take care of it.

11/25/10- HAPPY TURKEY DAY!!!!!!!!!!! I am so thankful for my family, friends, and boyfriend. I am so glad that I am a full time college student and that in a few years from now I will have a degree. I am happy to be in Fort Lauderdale, chillen with my family! Also I love my kitten Cleo and I hope everyone has a good thanksgiving!!!!!!!!!!! :)

11/30/10- I am really starting to wonder when we are writing our NOFO. We only have one or two more classes (i think) and we have not concluded unit 4, or even started to talk about the final NOFO.

12/2/10-It is finally December, the showcase is around the corner. We still are confused about where the NOFO is going and I do not completely understand today's assignments. I still plan on editing my Unit 4 Final Draft, so if anyone wants to provide feedback it will be very helpful. Reflecting... Student learning outcome: Feedback (giving and receiving), audience, critical thinking, learning to use the Wiki and take advantage of it, rhetorical knowledge.

Ehle, I read your wikiblog :)

Also, how is your western civilization class? Would you recommend others to take it?

Aww cool, thanks Andrea :) I like it a lot, Dr. O'Conner is new to our campus, yet he is very straight forward. Classes consits of lectures, as well as a visual pictures of what he is talking about. It is a lot of reading, but honestly I have not done much reading and I have a B in the class. Basically the tests are layed out for you in the study guide and as long as you know every term on the study guide (some which are more broad then others) then it is pretty easy to pass his class. He only gives 3 tests a final, and 3 document analysis. Document analysis is a 3 page paper that are evenly spread out through the term, and it analyzes a document such as Hammurabi's Law. Also he gives 3 pop quizzes but they are more to help your grade, not fail you! And I happened to notice that all the questions from his 2 pop quizzes so far, were on the test!! So I think that is helpful :)
