During the past semester I have been paying a ridiculous amount of money for an education that the state of Florida believes is worth twelve credits. I have studied information covering topics that vary from the different effects that pollutants have on their environment to the formulas necessary to find the odds of drawing a royal flush from a deck of cards. But this reflection is about a class that taught me about an essential aspect of life, different ways to communicate with people. Before taking this class I have never thought about the different effects that words could have on an individual. That learning just the basic concepts of writing would allow me express my opinion in an educated manor, these lessons have already allowed me to take advantage of opportunities that would not have been offered to me. I recently filled out a job application in which the last question asked why I thought I deserved the job they were offering. While I was writing about my diligent work ethic and good reputation I was considering the tone I was using and made a conscious effort to establish credibility in the area's I was applying for. I wasn't able to work there very long but right before I quit my boss told me that she was going to hire somebody else for the position until she read what I had wrote. She went on to tell me that the other applicant had already earned her degree and even had experience in the field, but when she looked at that last question she recognized that I knew how to communicate with people and get me point across and chose me. It turns out the other applicant also had a criminal record. Communicating with one another is a skill that can allow you to succeed in life, and I learned it on the wikki.
