Problem Statements:

Write your individual problem statements below this. Use different colors and sign your work.

We have grown in a society where there are so many issues at hand, so many problems that seem like it will never be fixed. We have to realize to change this earth, we need to step up as leaders, which we have already done by joining the LLS program. We need to realize these changes will not be radical, theses changes will work toward a gradual unification of the earth people. So where do we start? This is our NOFO assignment. Where do we start if we want a peace movement? The peace movement in the 60's and 70;s, had the right concept at mind, but there was no patience. The hippies did not realize change will take time. It will take a few courses of generations to achieve a unity and coexistence of the earth people. Everyone's problem statement will be no better than the other's. We need to come together as a group and decide which cause will effect our society in the most positive direction. So, everyone, WRITE! WRITE WHAT YOU FEEL IS MOST IMPORTANT! You don't need to write much, just express your thoughts in our problem statements.

What I think is the most important contribution with our 5K is to go toward research labs. Not drug research labs, we don't need more drugs in our medical flow of drug-based cures! We need to find out more about the machine which has ran our whole life and our whole society since the beginning of time. OUR BRAINS! We need scientific facts so we can better understand and control our living machines! Not to say that we are nothing, but machines. But we are living, feeling, emotional machines that need more information! We constantly use our brains for every little action you can possibly think of. We need more information on how this living computer works! If we have more information on the functioning and processes of our minds, then just maybe we will be able to better understand every other earth person. We will be able to become more unified and coexist with the knowledge of our main mechanics. Like I said, this 5K might not do much toward this cause, but it will start a ripple of change. It will start a gradual build on our knowledge of the last biological frontier, OUR BRAINS.

Sheena, is this supposed to be your mission statement, or is it just an informal idea? -Andrea

An informal idea for now, until my group puts more ideas into this and we can decide on a mission statement.

The U.S. has thousands of troops stationed overseas fighting a war that doesn't seem to have an end. The U.S. combat operation in Iraq is "officially" over but there are still many troops stationed there, as well as in Afghanistan. They're coming back eventually, but unfortunately, many are coming back injured; some aren't coming back at all. For those coming back injured, the road to recovery is long. In addition to the years of therapy ahead of them, they're faced with the challenge of living in a home that is not equipped to handle a paraplegic or, in some cases, a quadriplegic. The soldier's family can help a bit, but not all have the funding necessary to retrofit a home with disability equipment. Who is there to help? From the start of the war to date, 31,929 soldiers have been seriously injured.

This is a good start Ronny. I would also like to add that not only are these soldiers being physically injured, but mentally injured as well. My uncle was in the Marines and was sent over to Iraq for about a year, and returned home with many horrific incidents replaying in his head, from seeing his friends get hurt to seeing others blown up. These soldiers are coming back psychologically and physically messed up. This does not need to occur to such courageous American citizens. And for what cause? How is sending these soldiers over seas beneficial for the good of the people and our society? IT'S NOT.

That right. Even those who return unharmed need to be checked out. They probably begin to ask themselves, "why did I survive but my team did not?" They feel guilty for what happened. They're fighting this war because their hearts are in the right place. The methods, however, could be better.  A NEW METHOD: A DIFFERENT WAY TO PEACE!

Agreed. Going BOOM BOOM all the time doesn't exactly lead to peace.

Ronald i really like your statment. I have a brother over seas and a lot of his friends and others in his platoon have come back injured and it is very hard for them to get their lives started again. i can not wait to see what research and things you come up with for this issue :D

Picking one NOFO to work from:

As a group I think we need to pick on specific NOFO (one someone has already started) and work together to make it presentable to the board. -Amber
