Homemade Man: Cursery Rhymes

Page history last edited by William Kuncz 13 years, 4 months ago

Cursery Rhymes: an ongoing project exploring the interchangeability of written and visual communication.

Visual inspires verse.  Verse inspires visual.  (Not necessarily in that order, but always inclusive)

Divide, conquer, and bring it back together by any means necessary.

11.16.2010 - The beginning of note taking.

New work posted, "One Way Roads".  A piece inspired by a ride down I-26 mid-afternoon.  An homage to a new place's and new people.

11.30.2010 - Ending Thoughts.

I need to post this while it is fresh- I raced home on my bike to jot down these few thoughts...

This is what I should have said...

The PROCESS of my work is essentially free flowing thought that pours onto the page organicly...most of the time.  I love those times, I have so much to say and it just goes, free from time and murders the clean white page.  Sometimes it's work- I'll sit outside for hours and search for motivation and write a few scattered words at a time.  Most of the time during the "it's work" stage I end up trashing those idea's and wait for my muse to whisper something dirty in my ear.

I spent the first half of class trying to figure out what I should be doing.  I'm still not sure what to do, I'm just doing what I want to do- which is nice for a change.  I think the downfall of that was that as far as WORK went (as in assignments for other classes and my actual job) I put those first, because that's what I have been trained to do, so while these were assignment for class to me they were still a hobby and ergo didn't receive all the attention they deserved and took a back seat to other "priorities".

Also, it's important to understand that the drawings themselves are time eaters.  I can spend up to 5 hours (or more) on some trying to figure out where everything goes and adding detail, etc.  This project was a bold undertaking on my part due to time/priority.

These pieces are totally personal and written with lots of allegory/iconography.  I also hope that in this context it can take on it's own truth to the reader.  I want my work to be adaptable, however, I understand the dynamic of that is easier said then done due to the nature of the work.  I also understand that this kind of stuff isn't everyone's "cup of tea".  I've heard some say it's like slam poetry or hip hop but I really want to stay away from that kind of labeling.  All i can say is that at it's heart it is an illustrated storytelling rhyming verse, does that make sense?  I'm not sure what it IS or what it may become in the future, it's really up to me, I guess.

Those that read, I do appreciate the input, it's hard to comment/critique things like this.  Kind words were motivation and give me faith that I am on the right path.  The world is waiting, watching and ready.
