Jose, you write from the heart, and with a tremendous amount of compassion. And you have shown that you can commit to one critical need and use that focus to approach an issue form different directions. In other words, you "get it," you glimpse that way that this consistency will give you an opportunity to employ new techniques and discover new modes of writing. But this won't happen unless you perform writing actions on a regular basis: gathering information, organizing and analyzing that information, and then putting it onto a page so that you can begin to sequence it, and finally, craft it into claims, reasoning, appeals, and supportive evidence. I think if you focus on the techniques of reasoning (link here to Reasoning.pdf), and make a study of inductive and deductive enthymemes (i.e. focus on logos, http://english.ecu.edu/~wpbanks/rhetoric/ra3_logos.html), you will be able to put more of your heart into your pathos appeals. I also think you need to get comfortable with the idea of simply presenting information without added force: this will actually amplify your pathos appeals. Try these things. You are in a position to really motivate people by means of your writing. This course asks you to make writing a habit. Try it, blog freely, and let's see what we can do. I am open to seeing you use a revision of your WTE and further development of your WTI attempt into an appeal to your fellow SPB members. If you focus on what writing a good NOFO is all about, you will see that a NOFO is a good template for both these revisions. Let me know.
